A revolutionary treatment for teeth grinding!

Do you regularly greet the day with aching jaws, headaches, face and neck pain after grinding your teeth in your sleep? If so, your problem is more common than you might think. Excessive teeth grinding or jaw clenching – also called bruxism – can damage the teeth and cause a number of different painful knock-on symptoms such as facial and neck pain. Collectively, these are often referred to as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) and it is estimated that up to a quarter of adults suffer from TMD at some point in their lives.

Until recently, the standard treatment for TMD was to have a bite splint or night guard fitted – a mouth guard you wear at night to stop your teeth from closing completely, but these can be uncomfortable to wear and may fail to address the underlying issue, so the problem persists.

At Binley Woods Dentistry, we’re now pleased to offer a brand new, clinically tested technology that stops bruxism before it starts. Cerezen is a revolutionary medical device you wear in your ear. The two custom-made, 3D printed hollow inserts sit in each ear canal; the nearest access point to the temporomandibular joint and the perfect place to target the source of your symptoms. Once inserted, they retain the shape of your ear canal in the open jaw position because they are made from a 3D printed rigid material, effectively encouraging the jaw to return to an ‘open bite’ position. The result is a reduction in grinding, clenching and the amount of pain you experience.

While the pain relief Cerezen provides is profound, the inserts themselves are discrete and almost invisible. With small tabs for easy insertion and removal, they’re comfortable to wear because they’re custom made only for you. The devices can be left in place day or night, except when showering, swimming or playing contact sports. Since they are hollow, they won’t interfere with your hearing or with activities such as speaking or eating. In fact, you’ll probably forget they’re even there.

Comparisons with traditional treatments:

  • Can easily be worn during the night or during the day
  • No adverse effects on speech and hearing
  • Conservative treatment so no negative long-term effects

Bite Splints

  • Can’t be worn when eating
  • Potential adverse effect on speech
  • Possible long-term damage to the jaw

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear Cerezen devices 24/7?

Yes, as long as you’re not swimming, bathing, showering, or playing contact sports, Cerezen devices are completely safe to wear continuously. In the unlikely event that you experience any discomfort, remove the devices. We’d also recommend you remove your devices once a day in order to clean them.

Do I have to wear the devices in both ears?

Yes. Simultaneous wearing of both devices is recommended.

How can I tell which ear the devices should be worn in?

Each earpiece is colour-coded. The one for the right ear is marked with a red dot, and the left with a blue dot.

My partner uses Cerezen. Can we share?

No. Each set of devices is bespoke and 3D printed specifically for each patient.

Is Cerezen is safe?

Cerezen is a conservative and completely reversible treatment. The devices can be removed easily, and do not affect the ears.

How comfortable are the Cerezen devices to wear?

Feedback from clinical trials was overwhelmingly positive. As the Cerezen devices are custom-made for the wearer, this ensures comfort during wear as well as ease of fitting and removal. They’re made from medical grade polymers that have been safely used in hearing aids for decades.

Won’t wearing Cerezen affect my hearing?

No, because each device is hollow, so sound waves can still enter your ear as normal and your hearing will not diminish. There may be a slight change in tone, but not in volume.

How effective is Cerezen?

Over 70% of participants in clinical trials indicated excellent satisfaction with the devices and experienced relief from their TMD symptoms

3 easy steps to relief from TMD:
